Day 1: Pick-up and Transfer to Sipi Falls
Our driver guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe and take you to Sipi, which is located in the foothills of Mount Elgon in Kapchorwa. You will make an en-route stop at Sezibwa falls, to explore the falls which are said to have been born by a woman. According to the locals, the falls are believed to have spiritual powers, attracting many people to visit them and ask for blessings from ancestors. Sezibwa Falls are also very important to the kingdom of Buganda and its heritage. After seeing Sezibwa Falls, continue driving through tea and sugarcane plantations alongside the road, passing through Jinja city. Continue driving for eastern Uganda with an en-route stop in Mbale for lunch.
After lunch, continue with your journey to visit the Nyero rock paintings. The Nyero rock paintings can be found in a small village called Nyero. The UNESCO heritage site consists of three-tiered rock shelters with primitive beautiful art paintings on their inner surfaces. These paintings are thought to be by the late ancestors of Nyero village, who are said to be the Batwa, a pygmy tribe that no longer exists in this location. The paintings are thought to have been created around 1250 AD during the Stone Age. After exploring the Nyero rock paintings, drive to Sipi falls in the Kapchorwa district to check into your lodge for the night. Dinner and overnight at the Sipi Rafiki Lodge. Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Day 2: Hike Sipi Falls – Transfer to Jinja City
After breakfast, transfer to the hiking trailhead for a briefing. You will then begin a steep, yet fascinating hike up to visit Sipi falls, following the demarcated trails made of ladders. The hike takes about 4 hours and covers about 7 kilometers to visit all three waterfalls located at 100m, 85m, and 75m above sea level, respectively. It’s a challenging but exciting hike through farmlands and remarkable lush vegetation. After enjoying the falls, return to your lodge and have lunch. Thereafter, check out and drive to Jinja city.
On arrival, head straight to the River Nile to explore the river’s source. The boat cruise starts with a briefing at the starting point. From there, cruise from the shores to the exact point where the River Nile separates from Lake Victoria. After seeing the source of the world’s longest river, if time allows, go birding on Samuka Island, which is home to most of the bird species that live around Lake Victoria. Day 3: Full day Whitewater Rafting on the Nile – Return to Kampala/Entebbe
Get up early, have breakfast, and then transfer to the Nile’s starting point for white water rafting. At the starting point, have a briefing on safety precautions, followed by a series of swimming and diving lessons from experts. You will then board the boat and paddle through the waters to the rapids area. It’s a terrifying but unforgettable adventure. Ensure to put on a life jacket for safety purposes. After white water rafting, return to the banks, grab some food, and drive back to Kampala or Entebbe for your flight home.
