The tropical Budongo rain forest is part of the large Murchison Falls conservation area, and together with the Park, these two are popular birding areas in Uganda’s north-western region. The two locations are well-known for their abundance of more than 700 bird species, combined and these are divided into three categories: Savannah woodland birds, water birds, and Albertine endemics.

Welcome to the Pearl of Africa
When you arrive at Entebbe International Airport, meet our corporate representative/guide who will welcome you to the Pearl of Africa. The driver will then transfer you to your Kampala hotel for the night. Relax at your hotel before your 4-day Murchison Falls Birding Tour.
Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park – Birdwatching on top of the falls.
After breakfast, begin your journey to Murchison Falls National Park in north-western Uganda, which will take 5-6 hours. However, you will enjoy every bit of the journey as you drive through major towns such as Luwero and the landscapes of the countryside. Enjoy lunch en-route in Masindi before proceeding to Murchison.
When you get to the Park, drive through the remarkable savannah with views of elephants, and Kobs on the roadside to the top of Murchison Falls. At the falls, be fascinated as you watch the Nile squeeze through a 7-meter gorge and fall about 45 meters down as it flows to Lake Albert. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery around the falls, in addition to a range of rare birds including White Crested Turaco, Crested Francolin, White-Headed Barbet, Raptors, Narina Trogan, Rock Pratincole, Rufous-Sided Broadbill, Sunbirds, and many others. Later, drive to your lodge and check in. Have dinner and overnight stay at Pakuba Safari Lodge. Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Day 2: Early morning game drive followed by an afternoon boat trip.
After an early cup of coffee at 06:30 am, depart for the early morning game drive along the northern banks of the Victoria Nile. This game drive will offer you the ultimate encounters with lions, leopards, hyenas, elephants, buffalos, giraffes, and Uganda kobs, among other animals. Still on the game drive, keep an eye out for savannah bird species such as Marabou storks, ground hornbills, secretary birds, black-bellied bustards, open-billed storks, widow birds, wheatears, bishops, and weavers. The game drive will last about 3 – 4 hours, after which you will return to your lodge for late breakfast.
Relax at your lodge as you await lunch, before embarking on a boat cruise on the Nile to discover more bird species. Enjoy birds such as black bee-eater, swallow-tailed bee-eater, red-throated bee-eater, woodland kingfisher, shoebill, francolins, hornbills, grey heron, hamerkop, doves, mousebirds, shrikes, flycatchers, cuckoos, woodpeckers, crombecs, and warblers, to mention but a few. Furthermore, you will also get to see several hippos, and Nile crocodiles, and monitor lizards thriving in the river. Dinner and overnight stay at Pakuba Safari Lodge. Meals: Full board
Day 3: Bird watching in Budongo forest
Early in the morning, depart for the adjacent Budongo Forest for further birding and the highlight of this escapade, forest bird specials. You will bird along the Royal Mile, a particularly stunning route with forest canopy rising well overhead. Expect lurking birds like the Nahan’s Francolin, noisy White-thighed Hornbill, Cassin’s and Sabine’s Spinetail, Blue-throated Roller, Forest Flycatcher, Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, Yellow-browed Camaroptera, Ituri Batis, Tit Hylia, Uganda Woodland Warbler, Forest Robin, Lemon Bellied Crombec, etc. Budongo Forest is also a primate haven with about 12 primate species, and while birding, also keep an eye out for the Blue, Red Tailed, Vervet, and black and white Colobus monkeys. On a lucky day, you will also come across chimpanzees since the forest is home to hundreds of them.
You will spend the whole day on a birding experience in Budongo Forest, after which you will drive back to your lodge in Murchison. Overnight stay at Pakuba Safari Lodge. Meals: Full board
Day 4: Travel to Kampala
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast amidst the beautiful chirping of birds. Then, you will check out of your lodge and depart for Kampala/Entebbe. This marks the end of our 4-day Murchison Falls Birding Tour.
