Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport

Upon your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be picked up by our safari guide/driver and transferred to your hotel in Kampala – the capital of Uganda. But, before settling into your hotel for the night, the guide will brief you about your 10 days Uganda primate safari. Dinner and overnight at Karibu Guest House. Meals: Dinner

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park 

Today after your breakfast at the hotel, you will embark on your 6-hour journey to Murchison Falls National Park. Driving towards North-western Uganda through the famed Luwero Triangle and other towns, enjoy amazing sightings of the countryside. Proceed and via Masindi, branch off to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to visit the only home of rhinos. Ziwa Rhino sanctuary was created to introduce rhinos and protect them from being poached to extinction like before. After rhino trekking rhinos, have lunch and proceed to Murchison Falls National Park.

On arrival, check into your lodge and relax. Later, drive to the top of Murchison falls to explore the natural wonder. Enjoy the lush picturesque as you witness the Nile squash its way through a narrow gorge and fall thunderously 45 meters to the ground. Drive back to your lodge after. Dinner and overnight at Pakuba Safari Lodge. Meals: Full board

Day 3: Morning game drive and Afternoon boat cruise on the Victoria Nile.  

Today, you will wake up early to a brief cup of coffee/tea and by 06:30 am, you will be heading for the early morning game drive. Driving along the northern banks of the Nile, explore the savannah plains of Murchison in search of wild animals. Expect impressive encounters of lions, leopards, hyenas, oribi, bushbucks, buffaloes, giraffes, elephants, hartebeests, Uganda kobs, warthogs, etc, and a range of bird species.

Drive back to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, head for the afternoon boat cruise on the Victoria Nile. Cruising towards the base of Murchison Falls, you will enjoy sights of Nile crocodiles, hippos, monitor lizards, and several birds such as fish eagles, kingfishers, and bee-eaters, among others.  And a bunch of land animals refreshing by the river banks. Dinner and overnight at Pakuba Safari Lodge. Meals: Full board

Day 4: Travel to Kibale Forest National Park

Wake up and have an early breakfast at your lodge. Thereafter check out and hit the road to Kibale Forest National Park. The journey will take about 6 to 7 hours, but it will be a fun one with views of villages, farmlands, and the Albertine Rift valley escarpment. You will have a stopover for lunch in Fort Portal, then proceed to Kibale Forest National Park.  On arrival, drive to your lodge and check in. Dinner and overnight at Isunga Lodge. Meals: Full board

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking – Nature walk in Bigodi Wetland

After your early morning breakfast, drive to Kanyanchu Tourism Center for a briefing before your chimpanzee trekking experience. After that, you will be assigned a game ranger who will guide you into the forest to look for the chimpanzees. Kibale Forest National Park is home to more than 1500 chimpanzees – half of the total population of chimpanzees in Uganda. But it is also home to other primate species, wild animals, and birds which you will be able to encounter while trekking chimpanzees. You will be given an hour to spend time with the chimpanzees after finding them. and you will spend time watching them closely while they feed, play, jump around between tree branches in the high canopies and make their evening nest. In addition to enjoying the spectacular scenery of one of Africa’s greatest tropical rainforests.

Return to your lodge after, have lunch and relax. In the late afternoon, take a nature walk in the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. Managed by its natives, the sanctuary thrives with plenty of unique flora, a variety of reptiles, mammals, and more than 300 bird species. Trek back to your lodge after. Dinner and overnight at Isunga Lodge. Meals: Full board

Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Wake up to a relaxed breakfast and thereafter, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The two-hour journey will take you through amazing views of crater lakes, and the rolling Rwenzori Mountain Ranges. On arrival in the Park, you will be welcomed with encounters with bushbucks, buffaloes, elephants, etc. Drive to the Ishasha sector of the Park and check into your lodge. Have lunch and later take to explore the sector in search of tree-climbing lions. They are called so because they are often found climbing and resting up in the acacia and fig trees. You will also be able to see an array of Uganda kobs grazing in the savannah grassland. Return to your lodge after. Dinner and overnight at Park View Safari Lodge. Meals: Full board

Day 7: Early morning game drive & Afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga channel

Early in the morning after a hot cup of coffee, embark on the early morning game drive in the Park’s most concentrated track of wildlife, the Kasenyi plains. Expect to see abundant sightings of lions, hyenas, buffaloes, giant forest hogs, elephants, leopards, waterbucks, bushbucks, and kobs to mention but a few. The game drive will last about 4 to 5 hours and then you will drive back to your lodge for late breakfast.

After an early lunch, drive to Kazinga channel for the afternoon boat cruise. Kazinga channel is a long water channel that joins Lake Edward and Lake George. The channel thrives with large numbers of Nile crocodiles, hippos, and monitor lizards. In addition to attracting an assortment of land mammals that come to quench their thirst. You will also appreciate viewing plenty of bird species such as egrets, herons, kingfishers, pelicans, cormorants, etc. After the boat cruise, drive back to your lodge. Refresh, have dinner, and rest. Dinner and overnight at Park View Safari Lodge. Meals: Full board

Day 8: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Today after your morning breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Drive through immense views of the rolling hills of western Uganda and on arrival in Bwindi, drive to your lodge for check-in. Have lunch and relax at your lodge. Dinner and overnight stay at Rushaga Gorilla Lodge. Meals: Full board

Day 9: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

On the 9th day of your 10 days Uganda primate safari, have breakfast at your lodge and transfer for gorilla trekking. Remember to pack some snacks and plenty of drinking water and other required equipment, in preparation for the trek. The escapade will kick off with a briefing at 7:30 am, at the Park headquarters of your preferred trekking sector. The Park has four sectors for gorilla trekking namely, Rushaga, Ruhija, Nkuringo, and Buhoma. The briefing will entail gorilla trekking and the rules and regulations for trekking. You will also be assigned a game ranger who will guide you on your gorilla trekking experience.

At around 08:00 am, start your gorilla trek into the thick primeval forest of Bwindi. While searching for the mountain gorillas, look out for sights of other smaller primates such as red colobus monkeys, olive baboons, and a variety of butterflies and birds.

Depending on the location of your gorilla group in the forest, gorilla trekking can take between 1 to 6 hours. And when finally meet them, you are allowed one hour to spend time with them. Spent time watching and admiring their gentle, calm, and unique behaviors. You will get to watch them feed, look for food, nest and breastfeed their young ones. Get to capture as many beautiful memories with the gorillas on camera. Nonetheless, do not use a flash while photographing the apes, as flash photography is strictly prohibited. After gorilla trekking, trek back to the headquarters where your driver will be waiting to drive you back to the lodge at Rushaga Gorilla Lodge. Meals: Full board

Day 10: Transfer back to Kampala/Entebbe

Today is the day you mark the end of your 10 days Uganda primate safari, after spending 9 days exploring the Pearl of Africa. Wake up and have breakfast at your lodge, after which you will check out and transfer back to Kampala. Your 9-hour journey back to Kampala will include a few stopovers for lunch in Mbarara City and a photography session at the Equator monument in Kayabwe. Proceed with your journey and on arrival in Kampala, you will be transferred to your hotel for the night or Entebbe Airport for your departure flight. Depending on your flight schedule. This marks the end of your 10 days Uganda primate safari.
