Itinerary

Day 1: Pick-up from Arusha to and transfer to Lake Manyara National Park

Travel time: About 2 to 3 Hours Your safari begins in Arusha, where your safari guide will pick you up from your lodge or hotel at 8 am. Set off on a scenic drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a hidden gem at the foot of the Great Rift Valley. Lake Manyara National Park is a gem of diverse landscapes ranging from lush acacia woodlands to towering mahogany trees and giant fig canopies that provide sanctuary to diverse wildlife. Upon arrival, dive straight into a game drive, where you will spot herds of elephants, impalas, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, baboons, blue monkeys, and the famous tree-climbing lions lounging on acacia branches. The shimmering alkaline lake itself is a haven for hippos and flocks of pink flamingos, creating a stunning contrast against the backdrop of the Great Rift Valley. The highlight of Lake Manyara, however, is its famous tree-climbing lions, a rare spectacle that draws wildlife enthusiasts from around the world. Keep your camera ready for unexpected wildlife encounters before heading to your lodge or tented camp for a well-earned rest under the stars. Overnight stay in Lake Manyara National Park.
Day 2: Lake Manyara to Serengeti National Park
Travel time: About 3 to 4 Hours After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive through the spectacular Ngorongoro highlands to the iconic Serengeti National Park. Enjoy breathtaking views en route, as the landscape shifts from lush highlands to endless golden plains. Arriving in Serengeti, you will be greeted by sweeping savannas teeming with wildlife. Proceed to your lodge or tented camp in Central Serengeti and have lunch. An afternoon game drive will introduce you to the park’s resident predators as cheetahs sprint across the plains, elephants roam in herds, and lions laze under the shade of acacia trees. Located in northern Tanzania, Serengeti is the ultimate stage for Africa’s most dramatic wildlife spectacle, the Great Migration. Each year, over two million wildebeest, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of zebras and countless antelopes, traverse its vast plains in search of fresh grass. Beyond that, the legendary park is also a prime hunting ground for big cats, with lions, cheetahs, and elusive leopards prowling the savannah alongside cunning hyenas. Serengeti’s diverse terrain also supports an array of smaller predators, including jackals, honey badgers, foxes, and mongooses, while monkeys, baboons, and rock hyraxes add to its rich biodiversity. With over 500 bird species, from regal eagles to vibrant lilac-breasted rollers, Serengeti is a paradise for birdwatchers. As the sun sets, retreat to your accommodation and rest amidst the sounds of the African night. Overnight stay in Serengeti National Park.
Day 3: Full-Day Game Drive in Serengeti
Today you will have a full-day game drive, allowing you to explore the Serengeti at length and catch front-row seats to some of nature’s most incredible sights. Begin with an early morning game drive to catch the park’s predators in action. Watch the lions on the hunt, leopards draped over tree branches, and cheetahs gracefully chasing down gazelles. Return to your lodge and have a late breakfast, followed by relaxation. After lunch, return to the wilderness for an afternoon game drive. If you are visiting during the Great Migration, witness millions of wildebeests and zebras thundering across the plains, with predators lurking nearby. After an exhilarating day, return to camp for a delicious dinner under the vast African sky. Overnight stay in Serengeti National Park.
Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Travel time: About 4 to 5 Hours After a leisurely breakfast, start your journey to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, home to the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest volcanic caldera. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your lodge at the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. Check into your lodge and have lunch. Later, embark on an exciting guided nature walk, an experience that takes you off-road and into nature’s heartbeat. Led by expert guides, you will explore the crater on foot, tracking zebras, antelopes, and even buffalo while learning about indigenous flora and traditional Maasai customs. Overnight stay in Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Day 5: Game Drive in Ngorongoro and Return to Arusha
Travel time: About 4 to 5 Hours On the final day of your Tanzania safari, enjoy an early breakfast before descending into the crater for an exciting game drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is Africa’s ultimate natural amphitheatre for wildlife. This 600-meter-deep crater is home to an astonishing 25,000 animals, including all the African Big Five (rhinos, lions, elephants, buffaloes, and leopards). Enjoy a game drive across the crater floor, where you might witness a thrilling hunt or a rare rhino sighting. The crater is also home to a fine population of cheetahs, giraffes, impalas, zebras, and wildebeests, among others. Inside the crater is a shimmering soda lake adorned with flocks of flamingos and other water birds. As the morning adventure winds down, begin your journey back to Arusha with unforgettable safari memories etched in your heart. Your 5-day Tanzania Big Cats safari has come to an end.
