Our 7-day off-the-beaten-path Kenya safari offers a unique blend of adventure and tranquillity.

Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve (5 to 6 hours)

Depart from Nairobi early in the morning and travel northwest towards the Masai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s top safari destinations. Enjoy the 6-hour journey driving through Kenya’s beautiful countryside with a stopover in the Great Rift Valley for sightseeing and photography moments. Proceed to the Masai Mara and arrive in time for lunch at your lodge or camp. Check into your lodge or camp and enjoy a delicious lunch before starting your first game drive in the park. Aside from the Big Five, the Mara hosts the stunning seasonal migration river crossings of millions of wildebeest and zebras from July to October, offering the ultimate game viewing experience. After your game drive, return to your lodge or camp for a relaxing evening. Dinner and overnight stay in the Masai Mara National Reserve.
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Masai Mara
After an early breakfast, carry your packed lunch, and embark on a full-day game drive in the park. Explore the reserve’s Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and black rhino) in their natural habitat. The morning game drive is the best time to catch the park’s famous predators, especially the maned lions and cheetahs on the prowl. Enjoy your packed lunch in the bush and relax before proceeding with your game drive. Look out for other wildlife, such as hippos, giraffes, Thompson’s gazelles, and impalas, among many others. If you enjoy bird watching, the reserve is also home to nearly 500 bird species, including 16 eagle species, several hawks and falcons, vultures, storks, and bustards (including the Kori bustard, the biggest flying bird in the world). Return to your lodge by evening and have dinner. Overnight stay in the Masai Mara National Reserve.
Day 3: Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru National Park (6 Hours)
After breakfast, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park, located in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. The journey takes around 6 hours, so you will have plenty of time to enjoy Kenya’s breathtaking scenery as you drive. Arrive in Lake Nakuru National Park in the afternoon and check into your accommodation. Enjoy lunch and relax at your lodge. Later, head out for a late afternoon game drive. Covering approximately 188 square kilometres, the park is home to over 450 bird species and a variety of wildlife, including rhinos, lions, leopards, and giraffes. The park’s alkaline Lake Nakuru is a vital feeding ground for thousands of flamingos, creating breathtaking pink-hued shorelines. After the game drive, return to your lodge for dinner and a peaceful night.
Day 4: Nature Walk at Lake Nakuru & Transfer to Aberdare National Park (3 Hours)
Begin the day with a guided nature walk in Lake Nakuru National Park, where you will have the chance to explore the area on foot with a knowledgeable guide. Get a closer look at the park’s ecosystem and discover plants, animals, and birds that make the park special. After the walk, return to your lodge for a late breakfast, after which you will check out and transfer to Aberdare National Park. The journey to Aberdare will take approximately 3 hours, and on arrival, check into your lodge and settle in for the evening. Enjoy dinner at your lodge, overlooking the lush forests of Aberdare, where elephants and other wildlife are often spotted in the evenings. Overnight stay in Aberdare National Park.
Day 5: Morning Game Drive & Transfer to Samburu National Reserve (3 Hours)
Start your day with an early morning game drive in Aberdare National Park. Located in Kenya’s Central Highlands, this park is known for its dense forests, waterfalls, and the Aberdare Mountain Range, all home to various wildlife, including elephants, leopards, and the rare bongo antelopes. The park is also home to several spotted hyenas, warthogs, black rhinos, and a range of primates, including olive baboons and black-and-white colobus monkeys. On a lucky day, you will catch exhilarating sights of rare species like the bongo antelope, golden cat, African civet cat, and blue duiker. After the game drive, return to your lodge for a late breakfast before embarking on a 3-hour trip to Samburu National Reserve. Arrive in Samburu late afternoon, check into your lodge, and relax. Overnight stay in Samburu National Reserve.
Day 6: Full-Day Game Drive in Samburu
After an early breakfast, grab your packed lunch and head out for a morning game drive in Samburu. This reserve is famous for its dry, arid landscape, yet teeming with wildlife, including predators such as cheetahs, lions, and the elusive leopard, often spotted lounging in the trees. Samburu National Reserve is also renowned for its unique wildlife, including the “Samburu Special Five” (Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx). After about 3 to 4 hours of exploring, pause to enjoy your packed lunch in the bush and head back into the wilderness. Keep an eye out for the numerous bird species that inhabit the park, like the Black-headed heron, Black-chested snake eagle, and large herds of elephants that like to roam the area. Overnight stay in Samburu National Park.
Day 7: Return to Nairobi (5 to 6 hours)
After breakfast, depart Samburu for Nairobi. The drive will take about 5-6 hours, so sit back and enjoy the scenic route to the bustling city. If you have time, you may visit some of Nairobi’s famous attractions, such as the Giraffe Centre or David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Otherwise, this is the end of your 7-day off-the-beaten-path Kenya safari.
